Family & Pet-Friendly Flooring

Think about everyday cleaning, comfort and wear when choosing a floor for children and pets.

01

Keep sand and grit at the door

Sand and grit can mark a floor as they are walked through the house. Suitable entrance mats and regular cleaning help reduce what is carried inside. Check that mat backing is suitable for the flooring.

02

Read the care instructions

Carpet fibres and hard floor finishes need different care. Ask how to deal with spills on the exact range you are considering. Use bleach or stain treatments only if the manufacturer specifically allows them.

03

Ask about repairs

Find out how damage would be repaired and whether it is useful to order spare material. Replacing an individual piece depends on the product and fitting method; it is not equally straightforward with every floor.

04

Think about comfort and sound

Compare how samples feel underfoot as well as how they look. Rugs, carpet and suitable acoustic products may help with comfort, but any underlay must be compatible with the flooring and installation.

Before you choose

Choose room by room. Consider cleaning in busy entrances, comfort in bedrooms and the care each product needs, rather than relying on a general pet-friendly label.
