Underfloor Heating

The floor, underlay, fitting method and heating system need to be considered together.

01

Check the complete combination

A flooring range being described as suitable for underfloor heating is only the starting point. Confirm the heating type, flooring, underlay and adhesive against the relevant manufacturers’ instructions.

02

Follow the product’s temperature limits

Many flooring products specify a maximum surface temperature. Use the limit for your chosen range and ask the heating installer how it will be controlled. The thermostat’s room setting is not the same as the floor surface temperature.

03

Compare your material choices

Some LVT, vinyl, laminate, engineered wood and carpet products can be used with suitable heating systems. Check the exact product and, where relevant, the combined thermal resistance of the flooring and underlay.

04

Plan preparation and fitting

New screeds and heating systems have drying, testing and commissioning requirements. Agree the sequence with your heating installer and flooring fitter before setting an installation date.

Before you choose

Bring the heating system details when you choose your floor. Confirm the whole specification and fitting sequence before ordering.
